“Encounter At Gerasenes”
(Mark 5 1-20)
Lord, please tell me what you want with me
Many have tried to help, but all have failed
I try to move, but my body will not answer
My spirit lives among these tombs-buried alive
Lord, please don’t torture me with empty words of freedom
Chains and irons can’t hold me, but somehow I think you can
I try to speak, but the voices are much louder
The voices mock my every attempt to survive
Lord, please breath your life into me
I hear my heart beating, but my spirit lies so limp
I try to feel, but I only get numb tingles
You speak a word, and I feel my strength revive
Lord, please tell me what has happened to me
The silence is beautiful, and I am free
I move, and speak, and feel, and know - my life is changed
The voices are gone! You are with me! I am
alive!
Lord, please let me go away from here with you...
There is so much to face, but because you ask I’ll stay
I’ll tell them what you’ve done, and of your mercy to me
“THE VOICES ARE GONE! GOD IS WITH ME! I AM
ALIVE!”
