“To The Gardener”
Paint some color on my
petals
Add a sparkle to my
thorns
The color tells of
deepest feeling
And of the pain the
sparkle warns
Sprinkle your love on
my soil
Shine your mercy on my
leaves
Guide me gently as I’m growing
And hold my roots as
you pull the weeds
Take my fruit so I’m
not weary
Prune my branches so
more may grow
Splint my weakness so
I’m not dreary
And tie your band so
all may know
Walk through the garden
with a smile
Gaze at all that you
have made
Know your labor shines
through every mile
Come rest with me
underneath the shade
