“Holy Tears”
John 11:35
Jesus stepped slowly
toward the tomb
Treading through the
sea of dust that covered the earth with gloom
He heard, “Here lays
Lazarus, your friend.
He is gone until time
has an end.”
Then the Son of God/Son
of man, turned his head and wept
Tears splashed on the
dust beneath his feet
As the body of Lazarus
laid in death and slept
All around stared at
the place where holy tears and cursed dust meet
A moment passed without
a word
Then the footsteps of
The Master could be heard
At the stone he stood…
His face marked by dust and tears
This was the face of The
One to calm all fears
The words, “Lazarus
come out!” broke the silence.
The man once condemned
to return to dust, arose in triumph.
Jesus stood there and
lovingly wiped away all the tears
There a curse of gloom
was broken for all the future years.
